HIF Global is the world’s leading e-Fuels company, developing projects in different parts of the world to fight climate change by producing fuels with renewable energy, green hydrogen and recycled CO₂.

The name HIF represents the mission of the company: to provide Highly Innovative Fuels to make decarbonization of the planet possible now. HIF’s vision is to become the largest e-Fuels producer in the world, producing 150,000 barrels per day of e-Fuels by 2035, capturing over 25 million tons of CO₂, and turning 5 million vehicles.

HIF Latam, HIF USA, HIF Asia Pacific, and HIF EMEA are wholly owned subsidiaries of HIF Global. HIF Chile is already producing e-Fuels in their Haru Oni plant in the Magallanes Region.

About Kylie Chick

Kylie Chick is an Australian civil and environmental engineer who has lived and worked in the energy and infrastructure sector in Chile for 18 years. Kylie is responsible for community, permitting and environmental aspects of HIF projects, from early development to operational stage.

The HIF Story

2016-2018

HIF conducts studies and works with local experts to identify areas of maximum wind resource and minimum environmental impact. Review of cutting edge decarbonization technologies and markets to identify the optimum use for the energy which will be produced.

2019

Wind measurements commence in Chile. Power-to-methanol/gasoline technology selected and development of engineering solution begins for the Haru Oni project.

2020

HIF uses cutting-edge technological developments to harness the exceptional winds of Chile’s Magallanes Region to produce planet-friendly fuels, leading the way towards a future.
October: Highly Innovative Fuels (HIF) is born, integrating cutting-edge technologies to produce low carbon fuels based on green hydrogen.
November: HIF submits an Environmental Impact Declaration to the Magallanes Environmental Assessment Service for the construction of its Haru Oni demonstration plant.
December: HIF introduces the team that will develop the Haru Oni demonstration plant. In addition to Enap, Enel Green Power and Porsche, the German government announces its financial support for the project through Siemens Energy.

2021

January: Mabanaft and HIF announce a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the purchase and sale of up to 500 million liters of e-Fuel per year from HIF's commercial phases in the Magallanes Region.
April: HIF and Empresas Gasco sign a Research and Development (R&D) contract to obtain carbon neutral liquefied gas (e-GL) at the Haru Oni plant. The agreement plans to produce e-GL starting in 2022.
May: The Magallanes Regional Environmental Commission approved the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Haru Oni demonstration plant. In addition, HIF and Global Thermostat close an agreement for CO2 air capture equipment, a key technology for the Haru Oni synthetic fuels plant being developed in Magallanes.

2022

HIF Global secured on April US$260 million in equity investments to fund e-Fuels projects in USA, Chile and Australia. HIF USA selected Matagorda County as the location for its first commercial plant. In May, HIF Global expanded to Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), launching a new office in Berlin, Germany. HIF Global, HIF Chile and Uniper signed a LoI for the sale and purchase of e-Fuels from the commercial plants in Magallanes. HIF Asia Pacific begins environmental permit process for large -scale plant in Burnie, Tasmania. HIF Global engages Bechtel, Siemens Energy, and Topsoe for e-Fuels facility in Texas. HIF produced the first liters of synthetic fuels in its Haru Oni facility in southern Chile.

2023

HIF selected Siemens Energy to supply 1.8 GW electrolyzers to their Texas e-Fuels facility. HIF announced two major agreements to develop DAC technology, with Baker Hughes in April and with Porsche and Volkswagen Group in September. HIF USA received the environmental permit to construct and operate the HIF Matagorda e-Fuels facility in Texas. In mid-june, HIF launched a new e-Fuels project in Paysandú, Uruguay. HIF Asia Pacific signed an agreement with Technip Energies to conduct the engineering of its project in Tasmania, announced the site and signed an MoU with Forico for biomass and water supply, and potential investment in the project. In December, HIF USA and Idemitsu Kosan signed a Letter of Intent for e-Methanol sale and purchase from the Matagorda, Texas, e-Fuels facility. The Haru Oni facility in southern Chile received an international sustainability certification (ISCC Plus), shipped its first commercial e-Fuels export to UK, and celebrated the production of the first molecule of carbon-neutral liquefied gas (e-LG). In 4Q, HIF submitted the environmental permits for its first large-scale e-Fuels project in Chile, to be located in Punta Arenas. HIF and Chile's state-owned petroleum company Enap signed agreement to accelerate the use of carbon-neutral fuels in the national market. During 2023, Haru Oni received more than 1,000 visitors from all over the world.

2024

HIF Global signed an agreement with the Japanese companies ITOCHU, JFE Steel Corporation and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines to accelerate the e-Fuels industry in the Asia Pacific region...

The company announced an MoU with the Government of Uruguay for its project in Paysandú. HIF Chile selected Techint to conduct the FEED of HIF Cabo Negro e-Fuels facility.
