HIF Global engages Technip Energies for Australia e-Fuels project

Sydney, August 17, 2023 – HIF Global, the world’s leading eFuels company, today announces engaging Technip Energies to assess technology options and initiate plant design for HIF’s first Australian eFuels production facility, to be sited in northern Tasmania.

Once operational, the HIF Tasmania eFuels Facility, located 30 km from Burnie, will produce up to 100 million liters of carbon-neutral eFuel, which can be used in existing car, truck, aircraft or ship engines without modification.

Ignacio Hernandez, HIF Asia Pacific’s CEO, said, “This is a significant step forward for the project and demonstrates our ongoing ability to attract leading players in the world’s energy transition to support our developments. We are on target to submit a development application in 2024 and look forward to working closely with Technip Energies to design a project that will place Tasmania at the centre of an emerging industry helping decarbonize the global transport sector. The HIF Tasmania eFuels Facility is expected to create up to 200 permanent full-time jobs and have output equivalent to decarbonizing around 60,000 vehicles. We will continue to engage the community to deliver benefits locally.”

Paul Browne, Managing Director of Technip Energies’ Kuala Lumpur Operating Centre who leads the APAC region, said, “We are thrilled to have been awarded the project by HIF Asia Pacific and its parent company HIF Global, a world leader in eFuel production. Our commitment to sustainable energy solutions aligns with our client’s vision, and we look forward to fostering a solid and close collaboration partnership to deliver a global sustainable fuel solution.”

eFuels are made using electrolyzers powered by renewable energy to separate hydrogen from oxygen in water. The green hydrogen will be utilized together with recycled carbon dioxide to produce carbonneutral eFuels, which are chemically equivalent to fuels used today and can therefore be dropped-in to existing engines without any modifications required.
