HIF Global e-Fuels facility in Chile receives international sustainability certification

Punta Arenas, September 20th, 2023. HIF Global, the world´s leading eFuels company, announced the HIF Haru Oni eFuels facility in southern Chile obtained the International Sustainability and Carbon Plus Certification (“ISCC Plus”), a voluntary certification scheme that verifies the sustainability and traceability of the product's supply chain, from the origin of the raw materials, through the production process, to the distribution to the end consumer. The purpose of this is to measure the responsible use of inputs and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the production process.

HIF Global COO, Clara Bowman, said “This is a great milestone for our project, as we certify that Haru Oni is producing green hydrogen-based eFuels in an environmentally and socially sustainable way. Our goal is to maintain this international standard and apply it also in the future scalability of our projects, as a sign of our commitment to developing responsible projects in all its dimensions.”

The audit was carried out by the German TÜV SÜD Industrie Service, an accredited and independent organization, part of the TÜV SÜD Group, with a global presence, which reviewed the safety, quality, and sustainability of Haru-Oni's products and systems, and is valid for one year.

The eFuels plant began production of its first liters of synthetic fuels in December 2022, integrating various technologies and demonstrating that the production of carbon-neutral gasoline is possible and an effective tool to fight climate change. Haru Oni is the first "Power-to-X" plant in Latin America to successfully obtain ISCC-Plus certification. This certification enables access to different markets and customers that wish to apply sustainability and decarbonization standards through the use of eFuels (e.g. European Union, United Kingdom, Japan, and others), being a critical and fundamental element for the added value of the product.

eFuels are produced with renewable energy, green hydrogen, and recycled CO2. They are chemically equivalent to conventional fuels so they can be used in existing engines and infrastructure, being a direct substitute for fossil fuels.

HIF Global is taking its experience in Haru Oni and applying it globally to develop its portfolio of projects in Chile, Uruguay, USA, and Australia.
