HIF Global advances assembly of innovative Direct Air Capture technology in Chile

Punta Arenas, June 24th, 2025.- HIF Global, the leading e-Fuels company, announced progress in the assembly of the Direct Air Capture (DAC) Proof-of-Concept being installed at the HIF Haru Oni e-Fuels facility, located in the Chilean Patagonia. This milestone marks a major step in innovation and positions Chile as a pioneer in global decarbonization efforts and in the implementation of this cutting-edge technology.

Developed by HIF Global and Porsche, this test unit will filter 600 tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) per year directly from the atmosphere, which will be used as a raw material in the production of e-Fuels.

“Installing this DAC unit at HIF Haru Oni represents a key technological leap. We are integrating an innovative, efficient, and accessible solution that brings us closer to producing renewable fuels on a commercial scale. This is another step in our commitment to accelerate global energy transition, starting in Chile to the rest of the world,” said Víctor Turpaud, CEO of HIF Latam.

The DAC unit components arrived in Punta Arenas, Chile, from Hamburg, Germany, in 68 containers. Assembly has required meticulous technical work: six CO₂ cylinders were preconditioned in Punta Arenas and are already installed at the facility, along with eight drying units that will soon be assembled.

The commissioning phase is expected to begin in the last quarter of 2025, making HIF Haru Oni the first facility outside Europe to integrate DAC technology into e-Fuel production. As with other technologies, HIF Haru Oni will test and gain experience with DAC, which will be fundamental for the development of commercial-scale projects the company is planning around the globe.

The process works through a modular system that filters CO₂ from the atmosphere using specialized materials to absorb it. The captured carbon dioxide is then stored in pure form and can be used as feedstock to create e-Fuels such as e-Methanol for ships, e-Gasoline for cars, or e-SAF for airplanes.

This innovative technology not only captures CO₂ directly from the air but also allows for the extraction of water from ambient humidity, further optimizing the production process.
